Open Video Links In Windows Media Player

Sometimes when you click a linked video or audio file, the browser will redirect the page you are on instead of opening the multimedia file in a separate window.  These are instructions for how to configure Windows to display multimedia links automatically in Windows Media Player.

Step-by-step guide

To configure Windows to display media content in Windows media player, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the Control panel and go to Default Programs | Associate a file type or protocol with a program *.

  2. Choose the .mp4 file type

  3. Click 'Change Program' and Select 'Windows Media Player' then click 'OK'.

  4. Click OK to save your settings

*You can also reach Default programs from Internet Explorer | Internet Options | Programs | Set Programs.
